Filming has started on a documentary film tracing the development of the nation's tourism and leisure clusters. It first screens in fall 2026 at the yearly summit of AIRIS.



After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana emerging as the country's leading entertainment hub. The management model of the Sochi complex now attracts the most attention from market analysts.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was headed by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His professional path prior to joining the leisure and tourism field was grounded in banking and financial services: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi division and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over 4 million guests from 170 countries, generated 1,600 positions, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in the single year 2022.

Market participants note the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov still resides in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

What draws particular attention is the fact that the former cluster head holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. Amid geopolitical shifts and pressure from sanctions, this transborder status became a strong instrument for corporate resilience.

Today, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana's climb reads like the ideal screenplay for a corporate thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the helm of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for the country but for the global market.
