|
|
A new ascendancy can make a character concept look irresistible long before its full costs are clear. Before spending POE 2 Orbs on equipment for a promising idea, consider how its bonuses will work alongside skills, defenses, and resources across an entire campaign.
The strongest-looking node is not always the strongest foundation. A useful review starts with what an ascendancy enables reliably, then asks what the rest of the character must provide.
Follow the Damage Through a Fight
Begin with the conditions attached to each offensive bonus. A large increase may depend on maintaining a specific effect, spending a resource, or striking enemies at close range. Those conditions can be easy to satisfy against ordinary monsters but less dependable during a prolonged boss encounter.
Compare the bonus with the core skill you expect to use. A rapid attack may trigger an effect often, while a slower skill might gain more from a bonus to individual hits. Until official details confirm the wording and values, treat both directions as possibilities rather than finished builds.
Defenses Need Room to Work
Damage matters little if a character cannot stay active. Check whether an ascendancy improves health recovery, damage avoidance, mitigation, or protection against particular threats. Then consider how those benefits interact with the equipment and passive skills available along the way.
Movement belongs in the same assessment. A character that must stand still to deal damage needs enough protection to do so, while a mobile setup may accept fewer defensive bonuses if it can avoid attacks consistently. Neither approach should rely on ideal equipment from the start.
Compare Two Directions Before Committing
Consider a hypothetical ascendancy with one option that rewards repeated attacks and another that strengthens a resource-heavy spell. The attack route could favor a fast weapon, accuracy, and passive investment in attack speed. Its practical test is whether it can maintain pressure while moving through dangerous encounters.
The spell route might instead need equipment that supports mana recovery and passive investment that reduces resource strain. It could deliver powerful bursts, but its value would fall if the character regularly runs out of mana. Actual comparisons will depend on the official reveal, including exact conditions and numerical values.
Judge the Whole Journey
Early progression exposes requirements that an endgame showcase can hide. A bonus that needs several pieces of specialized equipment may feel awkward for many hours, while a modest benefit that works immediately can make leveling smoother. Look for passive routes that provide useful defenses and damage before the final setup is complete.
Keep the plan flexible as more information arrives. Whether you save resources or buy POE 2 Exalted Orbs for future equipment, the better choice is the one whose benefits remain useful from the first difficult encounter to the challenges ahead. |
